A very bearded day in American Literary History

William Cullen Bryant was born

and

Walt Whitman politely declined an offer of marriage from Anne Gilchrist, a literary critic who fell in love with him simply by reading Leaves of Grass and included in her proposal that she was still of a suitable age to be his Baby Mama, though she may not have used that exact phrasing.

  1. Ha. When I see all these bearded men I think of them as the original Sons of Anarchy. Not too much of a stretch when you consider that motorcyclists, myself included, share a lot of the same reasons for motorcycling as these writers have for getting back to nature. Transcendentalism and motorcycle culture share more ideals than one might think.

Think of motorcycling as commuting deliberately.

  3. Clearly you need to read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance if you have not already.
