American-Litter-a-Terre: This Week's Word: Pantisocracy

This is the course blog for ENG 352 American Frontiers: American Literature to 1860 at Luther College, Fall 2011. Course assignments, updates, and all sorts of literaria appear on this page, as well as links to each student's individual blog via "Student LitBloggers."

Why "American-Litter-a-Terre?" In French, "literraterre" would mean "litter on the ground or earth." This semester we'll think about literature as material-manifestations of discoveries, reflections, and imaginations that narrate space as they litter the earth. We will analyze how and why the American literary tradition is and is more than human-generated ink-stains on the processed carcasses of dead trees.
